Franchising- A Path to Successful Business Ownership

The Miller Business Resource Center serves as a regional resource for businesses, independent entrepreneurs, not-for-profit organizations, and individuals. The Center sponsors networking and training events and works in partnership with Long Island business support organizations to provide greater public access to the information and services they offer. On Wednesday, October 9th the Center will offer a workshop "Franchising- A Path to Successful Business Ownership".  In this informative introduction into franchise business opportunities you will learn:
  • The many types of franchises available – retail, services, B2B, B2C
  • How the franchisor supports the new business owner with a proven business model
  • The role of the franchisee and if it’s right for you
  • Franchise businesses that offer low cost of investment with high rates of return

Business Basics: How to Successfully Start a Small Business


On Thursday, October 17th, the NYS Small Business Development Center will present a workshop, "Business Basics: How to Successfuly Start a Small Business". This workshop will cover what you need to know when starting a small business. Topics will include business types, government regulations, writing a business plan, basic tax information, and financing your business. The workshop will run from 9-11 am at the SBDC Conference Center @ Farmingdale State College. There is a $12 fee. Pre-registration required.

Long Island Career Fair October 17th


The Long Island Career Fair will take place on Thursday, October 17th from 11-2 pm at the Melville Marriott Long Island. You'll meet face-to-face with hiring decision-makers from some of the areas top employers. Dress professionally and bring plenty of resumes, because they're here to hire.  Just walk in and start interviewing, it's that simple. You can save time, money and effort interviewing with multiple companies in one day at one location. Many of these companies have several openings and are eager to meet with you. Onsite Recruitment October 9th

On Wednesday, October 9th the One-Stop Employment will be holding a Onsite Recruitment. Waldbaum's will be recruiting to fill 30 positions including: Bakery Clerk (cake decorator), Deli Clerks (work behind the counter, slicing cold cuts & cleaning), Produce Clerks (stock produce, cut fruits and vegetables), Grocery Clerks (stock shelves), Floral Clerk (pack and display flowers), Seafood Clerks (work behind the counter) & Cashiers. These positions are available at the East Hampton, Southampton, and Riverhead locations.  Recruitment will take place at the Riverhead Legislative Auditorium from 10-1pm.

Community Job Fair October 10th

 Suffolk County Legislator William R. Spencer, M.D. & the Suffolk County One-Stop Employment Center will sponsor a Community Job Fair on Thursday, October 10th at the VFW Post 1469. The job fair will run from 1-4pm.  All are welcome and no registration is required.  Bring copies of your resume and dress for success!

Employment Network Program


Our Lady Queen of Martyr's Employment Network Program will be starting on October 14th at 7:00 PM in the Community Room in Centerport. The program is held on six consecutive Mondays and is FREE to anyone seeking employment. Experienced counselors will help you sharpen your job-hunting skills and cover topics such as career assessment, planning and research, resume writing, networking and interviewing.
