Long Island Career Fair December 12th

The Long Island Career Fair will take place on Thursday, December 12th from 11-2 pm at the Melville Marriott Long Island. You'll meet face-to-face with hiring decision-makers from some of the areas top employers. Dress professionally and bring plenty of resumes, because they're here to hire.  Just walk in and start interviewing, it's that simple. You can save time, money and effort interviewing with multiple companies in one day at one location. Many of these companies have several openings and are eager to meet with you. You're no longer just a piece of paper, you can get right in front of the decision makers attending this event. Admission is FREE. Complimentary on-site parking.

Senator Boyle's Career Fair

Senator Boyle will hold a Career Fair on Friday, December 6th from 12-3 pm at St. Joseph's College- John A. Danzi Athletic Center. Veterans Entrepreneurship Program Syracuse University

New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced a new program aimed at helping veterans who are interested in entrepreneurship. The Veterans Entrepreneurship Program, run by the city’s Small Business Services and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University, plans to help 25 veterans kickstart their entrepreneurial dreams with a free, four-week program aimed at giving them the tools necessary to launch small businesses. Veterans can apply for the program online.  After filling out the online application, veterans will be contacted for interviews, after which 25 participants will be selected for the program.

Next Steps for Vets

If you are a veteran looking for a job or going back to school Next Steps for Vets can help.  Next Steps for Vets is a web portal hosted by NBC News and offers tools & resources to help veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses find jobs and education opportunities. Users will find a resume-engine tool that translates military expertise into marketable language that will catch the attention of human resources executives. There is a  G.I. bill calculator to help veterans evaluate all the benefits for which they are eligible and a job-finder feature that lists professions from the National Resource Directory’s Veteran’s Job Bank. There is also a job fairs map which displays the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s upcoming “Hiring Our Heroes” events, a 12 step guide to starting a small business and an eMentor Leadership Program which will link military spouses to employment counselors.

Job Searching Now Available On Reference USA

The Huntington Public Library is pleased to announce that our database Reference USA has partnered with Indeed to give our patrons an easier way to search and prepare for their next career opportunity.  The U.S. Jobs and Internships module gives users the power to search by job type, keywords, geography, and estimated salary. Search results provide links to Reference USA's business records including company location, latest news, and key contact information.  You can also get valuable tips to help you land your ideal job. Topics include: interviewing, resume writing, job searching & aptitude & continuing education testing. Reference USA can be accessed on all  library computers or from outside the library via barcode.
